A Dog Lover’s Guide to NASCAR

by jillian.dahlen

Some sporty dogs just love speed. And when it comes to speed, it’s hard to match the thrill of high-speed auto racing. The largest organization for professional stock car racing in the world is NASCAR, which stands for the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. At DoggieNation.com, we have dog jerseys available for three NASCAR stars: Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Tony Stewart. In this post, we’ll explore a brief history of NASCAR and get to know these legendary drivers.

History of NASCAR

In February 2018, NASCAR will have its 70th birthday—the organization was founded on February 21st, 1948 by William France, Sr., along with other drivers. Different divisions and race series evolved over the years, but some things haven’t changed. The first official event took place in Daytona Beach, Florida, where the official headquarters of NASCAR are still located today.

Jimmie Johnson

The most popular and highest level of competition is the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, though it has been known by different names in the past, depending on its sponsor at the time. Jimmie Johnson (#48) is a modern champion at this level. He won the 2016 Sprint Cup Series, as well as five Cup Series championships in a row between 2006 and 2010. The #48 Jimmie Johnson dog jersey would look great on your own four-legged modern champion.

Jeff Gordon

Jeff Gordon is ranked on many lists as one of the greatest drivers of all time, including NASCAR’s own 50 Greatest Drivers list. He won the Sprint Cup four times between 1995 and 2001, and he has 93 total career wins, the most wins of any driver since 1972. He is now retired, but the legend lives on, and we are proud to offer the #24 Jeff Gordon dog jersey.

Tony Stewart

Tony Stewart is another Sprint Cup Series champion, winning three times from 2002 to 2011. After winning titles in the National Midget, Sprint, and Silver Crown divisions, he was awarded a Triple Crown in 1995. The #14 Tony Stewart dog jersey is a dashing choice for any speed demon.

Watching NASCAR with Your Dog

There are some exciting NASCAR races coming up this year. The most famous race of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is the Daytona 500, which will next take place in February 2018. Before that, there several races scheduled in October and November to look forward to. Even if you have never watched a race before, why not give it a chance? Grab your dog, some friends, and some snacks. Find a favorite driver, cheer for that driver, and enjoy the show.
