NBA season tip off!

by Coach Lilly

It feels like just yesterday that LeBron James and his Miami Heat were hoisting the NBA Championship trophy. Well, almost 5 months later, we’re ready to tip off again and the Heat look poised to defend their NBA title. And after an eventful and drama-filled offseason, there’s no shortage of story lines to keep an eye on this season in the NBA.

Let’s start with the ending of the Dwight-mare … I mean nightmare… that was the Dwight Howard saga that took place right here in Doggienation’s backyard of Orlando, Florida. Dwight and the Orlando Magic concluded a messy divorce that ended with Dwight being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers this summer. And in case that wasn’t enough for the Lakers, they also traded for 2 – time NBA MVP Steve Nash.

This summer, Lin-sanity took his talents to … Houston. The Rockets took a gamble and gave Lin a hefty contract to pry him away from the New York Knicks. Is he worth the money? Only time will tell.

The Oklahoma City Thunder lose one member of their “Big 3” (James “The Beard” Harden got traded away), but youthful all-stars Kevin Durant and Russel Westbrook will try to keep the Thunder in the title race this sesaon.

And perennial title contenders Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs bring their long-time veterans back for one more run at an NBA title. Do the aging all-time greats Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan have enough left in the tank to help bring their teams to the promise land? We’re going to find out.

And for the sake of Chicago Bulls fans, or all NBA fans who enjoy watching the best of the best perform on any given night, here’s to hoping for a quick and speedy recovery for the former NBA MVP Derrick Rose. The NBA is a better league with that guy healthy. Period.

I’m not sure about you, but I can’t wait to see how all of this plays out this year. I hope you enjoy watching these stories develop and you enjoy watching some great basketball from now until next June.
