What Healthy Treats Can I Feed My Dog?

by Coach Lilly

Dogs like variety just as much as we do.  Why not try something new and healthy so they don’t get bored?!  Vegetables are a great source of vitamins and health promoting nutrients.  Fiber is necessary in their diet too and vegetables contain soluble and insoluble fiber.  Broccoli, Spinach, Celery, Carrots are great vegetables to give them.

Broccoli is dense in Vitamin C, folic acid, beta carotene, fiber and calcium.  Broccoli is also known to have anti-cancer effects, this vegetable has so many wonderful benefits.

Celery is rich in potassium, iron, calcium and vitamins A, B, C.  Now celery is not a personal favorite of mine, but I never really understood the benefits of celery.  Maybe I’ll give it a try…adding a little peanut butter to a celery stalk wouldn’t be so bad. Peanut butter has great health benefits too!

Carrots are hugely beneficial by having the richest source of vitamin A carotenes.  Carrots also contact beta carotene, vitamins B, C, D, E and K. This vegetable is also known to improve eyesight – who wouldn’t like that?

Spinach contains twice as much iron as most veggies.  It is a hugely rich source of antioxidants (we all should eat this more!). Spinach also contains calcium, potassium, folic acid and vitamins A & K.  It’s a win-win for your dog’s body and yours too!

So, while you are cutting up your veggies at dinner time, keep fido in mind and let him try a few of these.  Remember not to over do it either – even too much of a good thing also be bad.  Just try a couple of pieces of each veggie.
